Over the course of the next 13 weeks, my group of 5 people will be in the process of developing a video game. We were fortunate enough to be assigned a group that is varied in age, culture and skill. As a result, we all have different strengths such as art(Val), programming(Me and Steven), level design (Sean) and project management (Mark). As this is our first week working on the project, we started out by planning our GDD (game design document). The team unanimously decided to go with a 2D, pixel art, fantasy-adventure RPG, based on the google Olympic Doodle of 2021 (See figure 1). In our game, we plan to create a minimum of 3 minigames that, upon completing, will gain you the ally linked to that specific minigame. Once you feel prepared, meaning you have gained the 3 allies, you can fight the BBEG (Big Bad Evil Guy). As a group, we created a story for the game as well as the main gameplay focuses (See figure 2). We then discussed and made a group policy document that states rules that we must follow throughout the project length. (See figure 3 and figure 4). Val started making the pixel art (See figure 5) while Mark sketched out a UI design for the main menu, then we distributed the tasks of filling out the GDD. I received the task of creating the level design for the final boss battle. I will have more information on that front in my post next week.
